How to read a tire sidewall

Please see these instructions for an example of how to read a tire sidewall. There are four major components of the sidewall lettering which help to identify the tire:

1. Brand
2. Product line
3. Tire Size
4. DOT serial number/ production date

The examples below will show you how to read the sidewall of a Continental 207/75R17.5 Conti Hybrid LS3 tire with the DOT serial number HW96 F7T9 2515.

Brand (Continental)

Product line (Conti Hybrid LS3)

Tire Size (205/75R17.5)

DOT serial number/ production date (HW96 F7T9 2515)

The last four digits of the DOT serial numbers (2515) indicate the production period (week/year).

Important: The complete DOT serial number including production date is visible only on one side of the tire.
